5.0"The Mini really caught my eye from the beginning.However,my Midwest sense of pragmatism kept kicking in.I was trying to find ways to talk myself out of buying a Mini.I had owned a Triumph TR-6 in my youth.I have always liked British styling and handling characteristics.However,back in the seventies they had problems mechanically.It seems a merger with BMW and 40 years of improved technology have solved all those issues.That argument was put to bed.The next argument was maintenance.I live in Columbus,IN.Well,over an hour drive from Mini.I thought to keep the warranty I would have to make many many stops up north.Again,technology quelled that argument,also.Maintenance a full 36 months pretty much everything.Oil changes only 15,000 miles.For me that's just once a year.They also gave me several round trip pick up and drop off chits if I can't bring my Mini to Dreyer-Reinbold,they'll get it.Another argument blown out of the sky.The room issue hasn't been a factor for me.The cockpit as the Brits say was extremely roomy and comfortable.I was surprised how much room I had when I saddled up.It seemed every time I tried to find an issue they would have a very logical/practical answer.And not just sales spin.Just hard facts.I'm no spring chicken.I'm 61 and had no trouble getting in and out of the Mini.Let's don't even go into the gas mileage.They deliver what the say and you'll have the best time driving it you can imagine.It was a very easy,comfortable experience.I did not feel pressured at any time.My only pressure was the pressure I put on myself trying to find an issue not to purchase.I obviously lost that battle.So relax and try one on. 1.0"I was charged $508 to replace a thermostat housing. Simply outrageous. This is apparently a known characteristic of the cooling system as I read numerous reports, including one from a MINI dealership in Miami, stating that heat under the bonnet causes the housing to warp over time and it must be replaced. 4.5"I had a crucial thing go wrong on the weekend - my window would not stay up. I showed up at 7:30am on Monday morning. They got my car in that morning, and they gave me a ride to/from work. They also fixed a tire issue I was having, and recommended and performed a tire change. The only reason it wasn't perfect is that I still had a "low tire" error after fixing it. 3.0"I had a broken parking light. The warning lights had been telling me that something was wrong with the lighting system. When I was notified of this, I had the light replaced. The warning light was not cleared from the system. When I took my vehicle after the service, the warning was still present. I was told that it was because I had a fog light out and the manual said it was either a fog light or a low beam malfunction. Now, I have to take my car back and have them clear it out. 2.5"There were two things that make me rate my experience so low. First of all, I was called and told that I could come pick up my car at any time. I arrived at the dealership around 15 minutes later and my car was not ready and I had to wait for another 10-15 minutes until my car was brought up. Secondly (and more importantly), my hood was not closed all the way. I didn't notice this until I was driving down the interstate at 70 miles per hour and it started bouncing. My light even came out when I pulled out of the dealership. I know this is petty but you could have at least told me that it was low. I also didn't receive a survey about my last visit in April and I am still upset about that visit; I went in for a simple oil change and it took 4 hours of my time. I had the car serveiced in August and the rear wiper blade was replaced at that time. When I borought the car in in December for replacement of the engine thermostat, I was told that the rear wiper blade needed replacement. 3.5"I was told the wait would be about an hour and 1/2. No big deal, I needed the down time truthfully. But after 3 hours I was beginning to wear a bit thin. But as usual, staff was exceptional and I love hanging in MINI dealership and seeing the new models. One concern was that I was told as a 'little hint' that when the red service car comes on I need to bring in the car. Now the red service car is on everytime I start her up and it still says service Nov 2011 even tho I just had her in. With the dealership not having service hours and my job not that flexable...it will be difficult for me to come back in and have that checked at thier suggestion.
